With Lollipop comes the need for new exploits. TheRootNinja team is stating that HTC One M8 users who are not already S-Off with bootloader unlock should hold off on updating to 5.0 Lollipop stating that there is currently no confirmed root method for Android 5.0 on the Verizon HTC One M8 or M7. Once you have S-Off with the new SunShine3 method you will be able to root your device. This will also work on devices like HTC Desire 510, and the HTC Remix.
If you aren't familiar with the SunShine method it is essentially an app that does all the work for you. Once installed it will test to see if your device is compatible. If your device is compatible it will then direct you to an in app purchase. It will then S-Off and bootloader unlock your device. The latest SunShine update should be out in the next few days.
