    I tend to be a bit skeptical about most of the apps I review, and Free Sudoku was definitely one of them. I was pondering what can be done to a Sudoku app to make it less “run-of-the-mill,” and the folks over at Sylvain Saurel showed me that a few little features can change how we play Sudoku on our phones and truly emulate the benefits of solving the puzzle on paper. For those who still aren’t aware, Sudoku is a numbers puzzle where the objective is to fill the 9 by 9 puzzle with the digits 1-9 so that each column, row, and 3×3 sub-puzzle contains only one of the nine numbers. We first began to see Soduku in newspapers and puzzle books, but it had made its migration to the phone platform a while back. Most app versions of the game are generic and simply allow you to fill in the boxes, almost ruining the fun of the game. Sylvain’s versions contains a few keynote features that make the app version just that much better.
