I can't find my "nandroid folder" anywhere...

Is it just my Android folder?

When do you all think we might see an unofficial update.zip file?

If you are having trouble with RSDLight, there are other methods to installing Froyo (whether your rooted or non-rooted, Android 2.1 or 2.0.1).
Go to Option 3 in this tutorial.

    Not sure what is failing.
Here are some things to check though.
That you have stock 2.1 from OTA.
Make sure that you downloaded the Motorola Mobile Phone USB Drivers (32bit)(64bit) and installed the one for your system.
Make sure that on your Droid that the last line says USB and NOT DATA.
You have to connect your Droid straight to the PC no USB hub or extender.
Open Device Manager and make sure Motorola Flash Interface is installed.
If you are running Vista or Windows 7 that you are running RDS Lite as Administrator.

Maybe I really do not have stock 2.1. I never updated through Verizon, I downloaded the ESE81 (2.1 update1) update.zip before Verizon could send it to me. It is not rooted, there is no superuser directory etc. How can I verify I truly have the right version?

That's what I did and I never rooted or used a custom ROM.
Did you look at the image and make sure yours looks the same?

Where do I go to find the official 2.1 so I can compare? I figured I had the right version just by my phone saying it had ESE81 loaded.

    You have the correct version.
I also downloaded and did the 2.1 manually.
Is RSD Lite even showing your device?
Maybe you need to redownload SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf it could be corrupt.
