Is there any way to have the status bar display in the browser without switching to a different browser?

i dont know about having it display all the time, but whenever you're viewing a page in the stock browser, if you hit the menu button, to bring up the standard options and whatever, the status bar appears too and you can drag it down to get notifications.

took me a while to figure this out after i was pretty annoyed that when i received a txt or something while browsing i had to exit to read. but yeah, menu button and it should pop down.

idk about getting it to stay there constantly, but personally i like being able to browse in true full screen.
