I'm new to rooting, have done a ton of research, but am wondering the different between recovery modes? Advantages and disadvantages to each? Can I use the same ROMS on both?

I have no experience with clockwork but I believe if you use Clockwork you have to use ROM Manager, and I just see too many issues with ROM Manager. Now to be fair these issues can be overcome but it's almost like ROM Manager should come with a warning….if you experience this, then do this.

I like SPRecovery. I've worked with it, it's simple to use, and it didn't cost me a dime.

Ok, so NOW my question is, I've never been rooted, updated via OTA, and now want to root. Is everything still the same? I should be able to install SPRecovery the same way everyone did on 2.1?

Ive used both - cw on my dx and spr on my droid - cw seems to offer more but like hook said, it's easiest to use with rommanager which can cause problems

Koush is an intelligent guy but id go with spr

Sent from my phone... which happens to be a Droid X

Personally, I tend to use clockwork recovery for flashing kernels because I don't need to rename them with that method. But usually for roms I will use sp recovery cuz it seems like I've had a bit more luck with that method and I tend to trust it more, also considering not every rom and theme is availible in rom manager/clockwork anyway.
I basically use both. Clockwork mod is nice to have along with premium cuz everything is right there, but it isn't really needed since most of the stuff is available online, It just might be more time consuming renaming to the update.zip's

As opposed to flashing reflashing the recovery 3 times?

    NO!!!!!

    Follow this thread:
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/rescue-squad-guides/39254-sbf-root-unroot.html

Flash the SPRecovery only sbf file. The 2.1 kernel will put you into a boot loop, and you dont need that headache.

I've actually come across that before but wasn't sure if it had relevance to me as it doesn't mention anything about 2.2 (which is what I have).

Clicked the RSD Lite links which were dead. Anywhere else I can find this? Is there evidence that this root will work correctly, as it's a little different than the ones I've already read up on?

Ive done it to 2 phones in 2 days. It works.

RSD Lite is HERE (USE 4.6)
Dont forget your drivers: 32 bit drivers or 64 bit drivers
Motocache'1's SPRecovery sbf: SPRecovery for Droid 1 phones (thanks to MotoCache1 for getting SPRecovery all by itself into a sbf file)

    Motocache1 has a superuser update.zip for SPRecovery, download here:http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...eruser-2-3-sprecovery-compatible-package.html

Flash the sbf file, boot to recovery, and apply the super user update.zip. Root, and recovery in less than 10 minutes.

Links for MotoCache1's sbf and SPRecovery taken from his threads.

Yup, I guess it is. I sent you a link to download it from rapidshare. If someone needs it before it is rehosted, PM me.
