So I keep getting these spam texts, not even real words or characters. I have no idea who they coming from, or what they might mean.
I asked Verizon, but over the phone and in store, and they said to forward the messages to their Spam line, 7726. Great, except that line needs the number that sent it, which I don't have.
I've included a screencap, anyone have any ideas?

Oh PS, running CM9, 06262012 release I think. Stock messaging app.

Did that, they want me to forward it to 7726. When I do, thru text back and want me to include the sender's number. Which, as you can see, I can't get.

They didn't have any answer for me other than forwarding it to their spam line. For a long time I'd get one every 3 weeks and I could ignore it. Yesterday I got 10 during an eight hour work shift.

I get that same text when they do the Emergency Alert test. Do you get those any time or just a certain day of the week?

Not sure what emergency alert you're referring to. I'm not signed up for anything that I know of... Do you mean like the EAS weather warnings they broadcast on TV and radio?

Newman is referring to this alert http://m.engadget.com/2012/05/14/wireless-emergency-alert-system-goes-live-this-month-delivers-l/ seems i get a test alert once a month, just got one about an hour ago. If your on stock gb you'll get the normal alert but if your on a custom rom it seems you'll receive a text of some gibberish.

So if it is that alert... That article doesn't mention any kind of opt-out. Is there one?

I don't mind getting these once in a while, but 8 in a single day is absurd.

I got one of these texts yesterday. After flashing CM7. On my deactivated Droid 2. With WiFi off.

Sent from my 3rd reincarnation of the ever-so-lovable Droid

Yeah. They'll come through on an unactivated phone since they are emergency alerts. Same way an unactivated phone can still call 911.

Stock ROM has the Alert app and you can turn the alerts off. Custom ROMs don't have the app, so we can't stop them. If we had the app the message would appear normal instead of garbled.
