Sorry, I do not know yet. I will test my friend's DROID phone tomorrow.

Here is a link for a long discussion of this problem.

thanks! Seems like there are a lot of unhappy people out there.

I wonder why there are so many fan boys in this thread, work for motorola or verizon?

Fanboys? Maybe because they aren't having the problems you are?

Yes fanboys, the people who are ignoring that there is a problem. Either you do not know that there is a problem with your phone bc it happens on the other end or you are in the few and have a phone which actually works.

Like do you think we are making this problem up??

I don't believe you're making it up but users (like myself) with no call quality issues on either end aren't necessarily fan boys. Mine just works... always has. No fan-ism attached.

Swap it out. You have defective phone. Never heard of this issue.

Will do.

Check out this link, it is 25 pages of people who are having the same problem.

I bet we can get a longer thread of people Not having the same problem.....

I just meant, it is obviously a huge problem. I am guessing that they rushed to get the phone out before X-mas. Hopefully they will have a fix for this soon

I'll get in on that. No problems here! I've asked almost everyone I've ever talked to about sound quality. They say I'm coming in loud and clear. Also done this with my plantronics voyager pro BT headset.

Nice, did you go into the phone settings and switch it to EVRC-4 or is it still on the default?

Yes. Outgoing audio is very poor, and there is no real fix available.

Currently we had:
1. Re-programming (*228, 1 or 2)
2. Turn the call in volume lower
3. Flip speaker phone during the call
4. change Voice Codec to 13K or EVRC-B
5. Remove battery and power cycling the phone
WikiAnswers - Why does your cell phone have an echo and how do you fix it

Some helps a little bit, but still cannot solve the issue completely. If you try to call your landline or other phone and leave a message, you can find if your phone gets this problem.

This is only serious flaw I find for this lovely phone.

Love my phone but have this prob. Where is the setting to switch the voice codec? Hopefully this helps my droid

Dial ##program then code is: 000000

go to option 4 and change it to EVRC-4 or 13k

But my advice is to just return it. Seems like half the droids are POS's I just returned mine today and so far so good

like a few here, I also had an enV. It had better MIC quality.
The thing I notice about the Droid is that it is VERY sensitive to MIC axis. If your mouth is slightly off axis, it gets muffled.
There is a large difference in sound quality on the other end for very small movements on or off MIC axis. If someone says you're sounding muffled, just move the MIC closer to your mouth and in a more "direct" line to the sound.
With the Droid, you have to pay more attention to MIC position
