I was excited to see Soundhound for free this morning! I DLed Shazam when that was free, so now I can fully compare the two. I've heard good things about this app.

Soundhound is great. I got it too. Just throwing something out there. I tried to root my TB last night and ran into a problem. Didn't root but factory reset the phone and lost all my Amazon apps I'd downloaded. When I went back into the Amazon Appstore this morning, it told me I could get them again no cost to recover...woo hoo.

Vulcan, but of course you could... they tie it to your Amazon account.

I grab any free app that appeals to me, to get it on my account, if I don't use it or like it, I uninstall ..

Soundhound is the better product, IMO.

Just a tidbit I found while reading about SoundHound. From the Market, the current version is 2.5.2. The version that Amazon sends is 2.5.0. Amazon also calls it SoundHound Infinity.
But it seems to work fine on my Droid 2

I was just about to post this same thing, hurray for free soundhound! I am loving the free apps from Amazon, too bad I didn't find out until yesterday and missed some good ones. Does anyone know if the devs get anything from Amazon for all of the free downloads of their apps? I'm just curious if Amazon is taking the hit or if the devs are missing out on revenue. I also wonder how long they will keep giving away free apps, hopefully forever but I figure it will end once they feel that they have brought in enough new users from the promotion.

Ugh, why do these music recognition apps need to know my location?

Not gonna bother installing it. :(

you should try installing anyways if its free... im not sure if this is the only reason but i know that in the app when you tag a song...it gives you YOUR location where you tagged the song. you can go in to option/settings and turn off use location.

thus not using your gps for location reasons?

You can disable that feature in SoundHound.

    Explanation of permissions requested:
    – Your Location: Saved with your searches in History to help you remember where you heard the song. This can be disabled under Options.

While that tidbit of info was copied from the description of SoundHound in the Market and not found on the description in Amazon, there is in fact an option to disable the location feature.

I grabbed Shazam and Soundhound as well. I compared the two. On common music they both did fine. However when I used Eminiems freestyle that was never released on CD Shazam couldnt ID the song, while Soundhound did. Soundhound in my experience is a step ahead.
