It turns out that Sony realized American consumers would not be wowed by the relatively tame (and only slightly refreshed) Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4. They have created the Z4v with enhanced specs and will launch it exclusively to Verizon later this summer.

Here are the internals for Sony's next flagship to come the the United States:
  • 5.2-inch Triluminos QHD display (2560×1440)
  • Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB storage (with micro SD support)
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • Quick Charge 2.0 support
  • Wireless charging on both Qi and PMA standards
  • 20.7MP rear camera
  • 5MP front camera
  • Android 5.0.2 Lollipop
  • IP67 Certification for water and dust resistance
It looks like Sony has kept their promise to deliver an improved flagship device later on in the year. They didn't release the details on a specific launch date, nor did they reveal pricing, but you can expect both of those details to be revealed within the next few weeks.

What do you folks think? Could this be a worthy competitor from the folks at Sony?

Best phone in Verizon's Android lineup (when it launches)

Sony made good on their promise. Good job Sony!

Yeah... this seems like a pretty mind-blowing device. It ticks almost all of the boxes: big battery, microSD slot, water-proof, sony's great camera, high-end display, wireless charging...

We aren't sure if the battery is removable, but if it is, then this device should be at the top of most folks' list.

So can someone explain to me what the navigation buttons actually look like on these Sony Z phones? I sometimes see pictures with the standard lollipop buttons, but othertimes, I see pics of this ugly Sony-version of the pre-Lollipop home button?

@wicked might be able to answer that one for you once he comes online today. I think he has a Sony phone in his collection. @smalltowngirl13 might be able to as well...

Awesome, thanks! I'm just hoping for a device that doesn't stray too far from stock Android visually, anyways.

Lets see what moto does with their droid line...cause either device will be a carrier exclusive...but whatever the new iteration of the turbo is...it'll be between it and this ...

That's what mine looked like when it was running 4.4.4.

Glad it looks like the way it does now. :)

There are also several themes that allow you change how the home display buttons look as well...the VZW version of the Z3 is still on 4.4.something LOL so the updated buttons are not stock on it without adding a theme ;)...

I can't wait to upgrade to this device. I was on the fence about the s6 but that's no longer an option. Z4v is the only phone I see as the successor to my s4.
