I get notified when I get a Google Voice SMS if that's what you're talking about.

    google.com/voice

When you use the service and you get a new voice mail, the app doesnt notify you real time.

SMS, yes... But the app should just handle it natively.

I've wondered the same thing. Best solution I came up with, is to reduce the refresh to 5 mins (the minimum).

In the Google Voice app: Menu> Settings> Refresh and notification> Refresh inbox> 5 mins.

Are you under the impression that (a) Google voice is primarily an app devoted to supporting notification of phone calls or (b) that Verizon's voice mail supports instant notification?

I agree that instant notification would be ideal but since I have (not infrequently) gotten notification of my Verizon voicemail three days to three weeks after a phone call, I'm extremely satisfied with the notification sent by Google Voice.

I see, yea that is a bit odd being that it's all google's system... I just get notified of a missed call and then i just check my voicemail in case, but yea why refresh every 5 mins, why cant it just know...

Just to clarify, Verizon's VM is out of the picture (at least for me).

If someone calls, they leave a VM on my Google Voicemail.

Before I got the Droid, I had GV set up to send an SMS when I got a VM, which was instantaneous after receiving a call.

Now that I have the Droid, and the GV app on my phone, why wouldn't the app be able to provide the same notification directly?

Just have GV set up to send a notification to your GMail.

It is instant that way - and you still don't need an SMS plan.

It is odd Google Voice doesn't do it natively.

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, I couldn't find it by searching, but there's an update available now for Google Voice that will push your voicemail notifications. Download and install the update, and in 'settings' -> 'Refresh and notification' check 'Synchronize Inbox'. I just tested it and got a notification in 14 seconds.

Yep, it appears that today's update has made the system push rather than poll. It's now perfect.
