Last night received notice that Android 7.0 had been downloaded to my 6P, and asked if I wished to install it. I said "yes', and the phone proceeded with the update - including optimizing all 83 of my apps for the new version. But when I checked (settings/about phone/Android version) after the upgrade, it still shows 6.0.1. The Build number is MTC20L (which I believe is Nougat). Anyone have a clue what gives here?? Thanks!

How drunk were you when you said "yes"?

Haha!

That's a very good and strange question.

Mind sharing a screenshot of your about phone section? (Makes it easier to compare all of the numbers if you post yours and others post theirs.)

Weird! Well that's a first. Definitely said was upgrading, and definitely said was optimizing my apps for the new version. Oh well, given your initial comment (and no, I wasn't drunk! :D) maybe it's all for the best!

M does optimize apps after even a security patch update.

Here's mine. This is with the update that came through the beta program though, not the OTA. It's still official "stable" Nougat, but I believe Mustang & other have said the numbers are different.

Looked like an update rather than an upgrade. I think whenever you push something new to the system or data it'll optimize the apps. If I reflash the same rom I get that

Thanks, guys, for the replies. CJM, this definitely was not simply an update - the screen clearly said that 7.0 had been downloaded and asked whether I wanted to install it. So, this really is pretty weird....

I just got the September security patch for Nougat on my beta 6P.

Do you recall having received the September patch already?

UPDATE: It just finished booting up & didn't optimize apps, though I'm not sure if Nougat does that so much anymore. I know I read something on optimizing apps happening less frequently or not at all with N.
