sms crash & delete

I have the moto droid. My default sms messengs app crashes several times a day. When this happens all my threads and messages are deleted. When I open the app it will say not responsive and I have to force close. If I try to open the messages app again I get the force close screen and must turn my phone off and back on. This happens several times a day and can't be good for my phone. I have the free antivirus installed and it says my phone is very clean so what could cause this?

This phone is only 2days old as I had it replaced. Hope you guys can help me.

that happened to me quite a lot. nothing solved it until getting a new phone. sorry:/

Have you tried another app like Handcent?
If so does it happen with both handcent and the native app?

You might want to do a factory reset to see if that will clear up the problem.

How do I factory reset? And no but I will try handcent first.

I downloaded handcent and at first it crashed I think 5 times. But it did not delete my texts, but now after it "calmed down" its been working pretty good. I'll keep you posted if it crashes bad again.

solved

Problem solved. I took phone to verizon store today, they had me uninstall the antivirus app nd now it works fine, both normal sms and handcent work like a charm.
