slow charging while using GPS

So I did my first long distance trip using the GPS on the phone. A few issues I had were as follows:
Phone gets REALLY hot.
Phone seems to charge very slow if at all while using GPS in the car.
Navigation conked out a few times during the 5 hour trip. Not a loss of signal, but the program just shut down.

I noticed the same today. Second day with fascinate and was using Google navigate and extremely slow charging, if at all.

I will be getting my SF in the mail soon so I can add to the discussion soon. I can tell you my D1 generally charges much slower in the car compared to a wall outlet. Then imagine having the gps on and the screen does not turn off while using turn by turn... and the SF has a much bigger brighter screen then my D1. And then data is constantly loading on top of all of this. Does it make sense that the battery wouldn't recover much? On my D1 sometimes the charging percentage does go up but then it QUICKLY goes down once unplugged...
