I'm at stock 2.1 and just want wifi tether. What is the simplest method to get there? Step 1 is likely to get a rooted 2.1 using the SPRecovery SBF flash. But then what....?

I'm not interested in a custom ROM, just a rooted phone to use Barnacle or some other wifi tether app.

    Thanks,

That is pretty much all there is to it. Flash the SPRecovery.sbf, create a backup using it. Install the root using SPRecovery, and you are set.

You may want to read around a little bit though, the more you know going into rooting your phone the better off you will be. Not that it is very difficult.

As others have said - need to root first. As far as I know the simplest non rom changing way to get wifi tether once rooted is the Barnacle WiFi tether from the market. It will run on a rooted phone with the stock kernel. Other options involve either loading a rom or changing the kernel.

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to try this out as soon as I get home from sitting at the dealership as my car is getting fixed....
