I've had my Droid now for a few weeks and am trying to decide if I should root my droid. I've come here for help on making my decision. I would like to hear any suggestions, feedback(likes and dislikes), and advantages. Or if you think I should wait for 2.1 update. Thanks

i think before you do anything study up on it. pleasee understand what you are accesing and what rooting is.:icon_eek: to answer your question to root or not to root:icon_ banana:. that is your decision. reason for rooting are wifi tether addt roms and overclocking are the major ones:icon_ devil: do some research before you jump into it. i am rooted running bugless beast 1.1 overclocked to 1200. several roms out there i like the bb the best so far.:icon_ devil:

Root is what I say. The roms that these devs are putting out today will be better than the 2.1 that moto/vzw push out when ever they push it out, IMO.

With all due respect, If you can't figure it out by reading the tons of posts on this forum then the answer is No.

Your the only one that can decide if rooting is for you. Like you, I could not make up my mind -- wait or root! Finally, on Feb 14, 2010, I rooted and have no regrets.

Are you satisfied with the stock version? If not, what do you feel that you want to do but can't? I suggest that you do a search on the forum -- rooting-- there are several threads that will provide pros and cons.

If you do decide to root then you need to read, read, read, and read some more before you proceed.

This .... don't just dive into it .... at least read through some of the instructions and there are videos on youtube so you can at least have an idea.

The risk of bricking a phone is so small these days and being able to unvoid your warranty by putting it to stock if you had to take it back is as easy as rooting it.

I don't regret rooting mine one bit .... and I must say it never ran as good unrooted.

this is a little bit OT, but does rooting the droid give me access into the PPP User/Pass?

I'm trying to figure out how to access that at the moment, but it keeps giving me access denied.

Don't do it. It's the worst addiction I've had since smoking. You'll find yourself reading these forums every chance you get. Finding updates, patches, apps, better kernels, cooler ROMS and more power. This cycle continues to no end. When you think you've finally got the greatest set up... something new and impressive comes out of the wood work and you find yourself relapsing and starting from scratch.
Whew, what a ride. I need my fix now...
