will it help my battery life or will it just mess things up please help
no harm done by doing this, all it does is delete the configuration file in /data.
Simple power cycle will do that for you. Let the phone power itself off and then charge it from empty to 100% without messing with the phone for two hours.
My phone won't do that. Any time I plug in my charger it turns the phone on. Even if I have the phone on the charger and turn it off, it just restarts right away. I always thought this was strange. Is this a bug of some kind?
My phone does seem to be having some glitches and I have thought about recovering it back to stock and starting all over. It is an original Droid, not rooted, running 2.2.1.
so this cant mess up your phone at all? even if the battery is working well it wont hurt to do this?
Oh, the reboot is fine. What I mean by not messing with it is plugging it in and putting it down and walking away from it for an hour or two. Preferably two.
It's not the best thing to do regularly, but the battery won't mind you doing it once in a while (the power cycle, I mean). It forces the phone to relearn the charge points so it does a better job charging and discharging the battery. Net result is better battery life. I have to do it every couple of months with my usage habits and that's about as often as I really recommend you do it.
