Is there a way to type in a phone number and see which contact it is?

    Example

Friend gets texted by someone and doesn't know who it is. I put the number in my phone to see if I have that number and if I do it displays the persons name.

If you get a text from someone already in you phonebook, their NAME will be displayed with the text.

Gesture search is what I'm looking for but playing around with it, it always doesn't get the numbers I put in so it doesn't pick up the contact. Is there something else that I can just use the onscreen keyboard to put in the number?
