I just saw that you have an htc and I have a motorola but its probably the same

I'm guessing it is because I turned the GPS off and the icon went away. Thanks again.

I'll do that at some point, for now it isn't bugging me as badly yet

To disable adds you will have to root your eris. Theres a sticky that will point you in the right direction. And yes that dish icon is for gps.
