i have sapphire installed on my droid but it seems to be one of the least discussed ROMs out there. Any fans of sapphire out there or should i maybe try a different ROM that a newbie like myself can get more help with customizing

I think Sapphire has a very large following. Is there a specific question that you have about Sapphire?

i honestly don't know enough to realize what rooting is capable of, so i don't have any specific questions yet. i want to get started learning what i have here now that i have root and it seems that other ROMs are more discussed than sapphire

Sapphire is one of the most popular and most talked about ROMs I thoguht? There are a bunch of little guys that don't get much discussion but Sapphire has a huge fanbase.. Great ROM also!

Understand. What topics have you seen discussed that interest you? Have you added a theme?

There is no need to wipe when installing a theme. I would highly recommend you have a current backup of you current ROM before installing the theme though. This way if something were to go wrong you can always flash back to it.

Yank is correct -- always do a backup. IF you don't need it you can always delete it but a backup can save you lots and I mean lots of stress.

The instructions on Alternate Dark Theme did not mention this so I will.

When you mount your phone to move the new update.zip file either rename or remove any previous update.zip files. If you have more than one you will not be successful.

I did the simple backup. droid froze as i was trying to do an advanced backup. this wasn't the first backup and i wanted to name them but i didn't get that done. i loaded 'alternate dark edge' theme with no problem except i had no control of ringer volume at first but it seems to have returned on its own. i'm giving the ADW launcher a try. I want to learn about kernals and overclocking next. thanks to all who helped
