Samsung finally put the rumors and speculation to rest. They officially unveiled their new Galaxy Mega line of phablets, which indeed includes the Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3. They are marketing them as the "best of both worlds" line of devices, combining the portability of a smartphone and the extra usability of a tablet. Here's a spec breakdown,

    The Galaxy Mega 5.8:
    • 5.8-inch qHD display
    • 1.4GHz dual-core processor
    • 1.5GB RAM
    • Android 4.2
    • 8MP rear camera
    • 1.9MP front-facing camera
    • 2600 mAh battery
    The Galaxy Mega 6.3:
    • 6.3-inch HD display
    • 1.7GHz dual-core processor
    • 1.5GB RAM
    • Android 4.2
    • 8MP rear camera
    • 1.9MP front-facing camera
    • LTE
    • 3200 mAh battery
Here's part of their press release,

2 things come to mind...obnoxiously large display and will that fit into pockets? Plus, I do not understand why Sammy forgoes the Snapdragon 600 or Exynos 5 here? Makes little sense to use dual-core with that large of screen, horrible battery drain.

that's like the size of my Kindle Paperwhite. Yes it'll fit in larger pockets but feels clumsy and just plain wrong

I'll tell you what would be killer is to put a great speakerphone - office/business quality speakerphone - in a tablet or phone like this and that becomes a key value-added use. Forget the data/cell service, it's home/office "mobile" only and works with wifi and/or VoIP.

Agreed. Not to mention, WAY TOO BIG! Who really wants to hold a brick to the side of their head to talk on the phone. I think it's ridiculous.

I thought the same thing until I was able to use a Galaxy Tab 2. It's really not a big deal.
