In the high-end it seems that almost everything Samsung does turns to gold, but that's not as true in the budget segment. Sammy just officially unveiled their newest Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, to a collective "ho-hum" in the industry. The specs of the new device are less than mediocre, and Samsung didn't even bother to share a price-tag. Perhaps they are wanting to gauge interest before making a decision on what price to give it. Here's the spec breakdown:
    • 1.2Ghz dual-core processor
    • 1GB of RAM
    • 8GB of storage (plus SD card)
    • 7-Inch 1024x600 display
    • No more front-facing camera
    • 2.0MP Rear camera
    • No more side-mounted IR blaster is gone
    • 3600mAh battery
    • Android 4.2
    • Samsung's TouchWiz
    • Standard WiFi and 3G versions
As you can see, unless Samsung markets this for $99 bucks or less, it can't even compete with their own $150 Galaxy Tab 3. Even if they did that, we doubt anyone would get too excited. There's practically no room in the market for this device. Some of the decisions of companies leave you scratching your head.

People that buy $99 tablets don't look at specs. They'll see a Samsung tablet for $99 and jump at it.

EDIT: Just realized the $99 price was a "what if". If they did that they'll sell millions of these things.

Why ditch a front-facing camera in favor of a TWO megapixel rear camera?!? Almost like they tried to see how useless of a tablet they could get to buy.

If this device were to sell for $99.00, I bet it will have a following, as not everyone is excited about obtaining the latest and greatest devices, but good quality devices that meet their needs, at a price that will not break the budgets of today's consumers, and older, wary buyers of these tools of convenience.
Even the younger generation is having a difficult time keeping up with the jones' and their expensive device appetite.
Endless pools of free money just don't exist anymore, and there are those that only use these for a small percentage of their daily living, and not connected to them as many of us have become.
To those, it is only a tool, to provide a means to an end, shopping lists, home repair lists, car service needs and so on..
These are the people that CAN put the device away until needed again the next time.
These are the very people a $99.00 price point will push over the fence and make a purchase.

My 82 year old father (R.I.P) was griping about spending $15.00 a month for prepaid phone service, and there are those that expect these same consumers to fork over $300.00 for what they perceive as a toy?
If you wish to enlarge the market, you must cater to the ENTIRE market, not a sliver of it.

    Enterprise, one to beam up!

^^^Ha! You're right, seeing as how I've been thinking about a 7-8" tablet primarily for reading e-books I WOULD have to consider this for $99. With those specs, it's not going to do anything else particularly well.
