Samsung Galaxy S3 storage problem

Since the latest 'firmware' update it seems all my storage has disappeared. I had loads left before the upgrade. I've synced quite a few times and on one occasion the storage went back to it's original pre-update status. Being the fool that I am I reconnected to Kies to try to sort out my music etc, and since then I am back to no storage on the phone or external 4gb card.
Can anybody offer any advice?

No offense, but 4 Gb on a smart phone is next to nothing. First ensure that your sd card is mounted. Second, consider replacing it with a 64Gb card. Here is a link from Amazon. If that is too much (not meant to insult...some can and some cannot), there is a 16 or 32 Gb card option. Just select what works for you.
