A couple of days back, Samsung had demoed the foldable display at the SID Display Week 2016. The 5.7-inch AMOLED display comes with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and measures just 0.3mm thickness. It is rumored to be used for the Galaxy X smartphone that might be launched in 2017. Samsung hasn’t stopped there; it also showcased the Bio Blue display technology.

The 5.5-inch 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution AMOLED display along with the new Bio Blue technology is said to reduce the blue light levels to 6% while the same display without Bio Blue technology can reduce only upto 32%. The lower blue light level means less eye fatigue and less strain. Last year, Sony launched the Xperia Z Premium with 4K resolution display and the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 may use the same 5.5-inch 4K display, but it comes less brightness.

Samsung is rumored to skip the Galaxy Note 6 naming for the upcoming Galaxy Note device in 2016. It will be named as Galaxy Note 7, which places it in the same league as Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7. More than the smartphones, the company will be using the higher resolution displays for VR devices. The Samsung Gear VR might feature this 4K AMOLED display with the Bio Blue technology.

The showcased 5.5-inch display come with 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 806ppi. However, the display comes with only 350nits of brightness and 97% color gamut. Lesser brightness hints that the display is more suitable for VR headsets. In October last year, we have exclusively covered about the Philips S616 and V787 smartphones that features anti-bluelight displays.

Both the Philips smartphones came with SoftBlue technology that reduces 86% of blue light make the devices stress free for eyes. We can expect more manufacturers to launch the devices with less percentage of blue light emission.
