Safe mode?

Ok so I have a Droid x that I bricked then fixed with sbf and was using it as like as tablet and today I used z4root to root it and after it rebooted my main screen had a small transparent grey box that says safe mode and I have no idea what that means? But also my menu button started not working so I took root off and then tried to activate it with my number so I could take it in to Verizon but it wouldn't let me active it so I'm at a loss here can someone please help me? Also sry this was so long
