We have an intriguing rumor this morning on the Samsung Galaxy S IV. It's not really anything new, but instead reconfirms earlier rumors and shares some details with better explanations. Apparently, the new SGS4 will indeed be coming equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 600 processor instead of the Exynos 5 Octa-core that Samsung teased us early in the year. This Qualcomm chip will be the chip used across the entire global lineup of the SGS4 for every carrier. Supposedly, the reason Sammy chose not to use their own tech is they have not been able to nail down the heat and power issues for their super-chip. They instead chose to go with the Qualcomm chip because of its performance to power efficiency and the fact that it has an integrated LTE modem for their markets that need it.

Considering Samsung is expecting the SGS4 to be their largest success yet (they expect to sell a mammoth 100 Million units of the device), it must have been a tough call to put their competitor's CPU in the device. Still, if the heat and power issues are true, then it was a wise move on their part. For now we will still file this in the rumor-bin considering there has been no reliable corroboration of anything. Luckily we should know something on March 14th, if that rumor turns out to be true too. What an interesting web of innuendo to amp up the hype-machine...

Its good to see that Samsung is thinking ahead instead of just cramming their chip in it. Sure, I'd like to see the new Exynos chip in it, but I'd rather have a phone that is not hot and battery draining over one that just has a new chip in it. IMO, best call they could have made.
