My first and only ROM (noob). If I want to upgrade versions do I have to go through the same steps of flashing a new ROM or can I just install an update.zip file?

Thanks for your help.

I am a noob as well when it comes to flashing ROM's. I think your question is valid. I am currently looking into similar issues. Like should I flash back to stock before flashing to a new ROM? I would think in your case you would be perfectly safe just to upgrade but wait for someone with more experience to weigh in.

Read instructions on all rom posts. If going from one rom to the next its good practice to always have a stock backup so you dont have to sbf. Just restore the stock rom then wipe data and flash your rom. If you're just updating to a new version of a rom make sure you follow the developers instructions but you should be good to just wipe data then install.

Now thats only if the kernel or system versions are the same. Like going from froyo roms to gingerbread. Different ball game. Can't restore back. Have to sbf.
