    Just wondering before I try it, will the app z4root work with the 2.3.20 ota we got a little while ago?

    and if I do permanent, is there a way to unroot from the app when i dont want to be rooted anymore?

    When you are rooted z4root will have an unroot option.

    You only need to back up stuff if you are going to flash a rom. In which case grab a copy of the d2 bootstrapper from the marketplace for 2$ or free from koush's website and use it to bootstrap cm recovery. From there you can make a nandroid backup.

    Well I'm not ready to flash a rom yet so I guess I'm fine for now. I just want the features and apps the I can't have unrooted.
    What things can I do rooted that I can't do stock? (Besides roms)
