Hey everyone. I'm looking for a method, as the threat title suggests, to root the Droid without a mini-USB. I've done a search on the forums and on google to no avail, and I'm hoping you guys can help me. Most of the method's I've looked up require you to hook up to a computer, which I can't use.

My Droid's mini-usb port is broken, and I can't have my phone replaced. I'm able to charge it through an external battery. Right now my phone is running 2.2.1 FRG83D.

As far as I know, Z4root doesn't work on this build, and I don't think I can downgrade without a miniUSB. I've been told the Droid Mod updater application can root the phone, but it didnt work.

TL;DR - Can you help me find a way to root my Droid without using the mini-USB?

Out of curiosity, why can't you replace your phone?

You may be able to copy an image file via a card reader and flash it in the stock recovery.

Where would I find an appropriate image file to flash, though? I believe the Droid Mod Updater uses this method, but after applying the update.zip in recovery mode it cancels saying it isn't signed.

edit: I've attempted to run the 2.1 update.zip in stock recovery mode to no avail; I get the error in update.zip (status 2).

I am still hoping someone can help me out on this.

    also: happy new year.
