I've rooted my droid and it uses

power button for a back button
volume for up and down
camera for select

I'm wondering, and I'm sure there's an answer, what does the GNex and others without a camera button use?

You don't say it, but I'm sure you're meaning your recovery. We'll see what the devs decide to use when they compile a recovery for the Nexus.

Yea, sorry, in recovery mode.

We can also (at least I can) use our touch buttons (DINC2), to go back, forward and select.
