Yes, I'm a noob and I'm preparing to root my droid (OG). I have been doing a lot of research of how best to root my droid and I see many different ways (or at least what seem like many different ways). There's Z4 root or various methods on YouTube. Can someone tell me what the difference is between these methods and/or what is the best way to do it?

I know some of these methods were posted a long time ago. Is there a method/methods that is newer and better/easier? (It's hard to compare all of them when a lot of the info is foreign to me....)

    Thanks!

While this may not be the "easiest" method it is, by far, the best method for rooting your oG Droid:

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html

It keeps complete control of your Droid with you and you are completely aware of what is happening at all times. Also, it is COMPLETELY version independant. So it doesn't matter whether you are running FRG83G, or still on an Eclair version.

The only thing I would change is flashing this recovery:

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ra...-based-update-zips-battery-charging-more.html

    instead of SPRecovery.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. I really needed some perspective on all the info that's out there.

Superoneclick seems to work for people as well.

I'm a BIG fan of the above method because once you read the novel, you have a bit of understanding about what is happening.

Also, it gets rid of FRS and gives you a custom recovery that will block VZW OTA updates. These 2 things alone are invaluable.

Okay, cool. I've never heard of Superoneclick.

I'm wondering if I use one of the "easier" methods (like Z4 root or maybe the one you mentioned) first, can I unroot and then do it the longer/more involved way later (once I get an idea of what it's all about).

Superoneclick is the closest you will get to one click root for the D1 now. Google has closed the one click holes.

I have to second the SuperOneClick method. It worked great for me! I tried the long version many times but could never get RSD Lite to work right.

I would definitely say that reading all the material you can before you root will help you get a much better understanding in case you do something wrong. Don't just root your phone and then start researching, do the research first, it will help!!!
