Okay so I've been trying to root my 2.1 moto Droid. Seeing as my computer fails to work with rsd lite, I'm attempting to downgrade to 2.0.1, but whenever I try to apply the update it fails. Am I putting it in the wrong folder of the SD card? Is there some other issue?

Do you have sprecovery or stock recovery on your droid?

    You DO have 1

When you boot the phone up while holding x what do you get?

so what update.zip are you using if you don't have sprecovery?
where did you get it from?

also make sure if it's an update.zip it's on the root of your sd card... ie... not in any folders

Didn't think you could do that, Thought you had to flash SPR through RSD 1st, did you install the drivers for rsd lite? Rsd is buggy but you should be able to flash SPR if you follow the instructions.

Where did you get the update.zip?
If it's the correct one for rooting on stock recovery

You would put the file named update.zip on root of sdcard, yes in no folder
    reboot recovery
    then apply update.zip
then you might have to press allow

I think this is the only way to root 2.1 without flashing SPR 1st

Root Motorola DROID on Android 2.1 Platform Easily | Gadgets DNA

    Looks pretty straight forward.

Thought I remember seeing a SPR update.zip somewhere, will look around and report back.
