I have a droid that I have rooting for 8 months now. I can do that easily. Is it just as easy for the droid x and incredible?

Dinc is easy. On the DX you'll have to deal with bootstrapper.

Don't have one but everything I've read on xda leads me to believe so. Different but just as easy.

Well, the Droid X at the moment, is pretty easy to root with z4root v1.30, as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. The reason I hedge the answer is that every OTA update Motorola releases is (in part) designed to un-root those of us who've chosen to root our phones - so a new update of any sort, from Motorola, will change the equation.

As for the Dinc, I used UnRevoked Forever, but that was back in the Summer and I'm not sure if the subsequent OTA updates by HTC had the effect of undoing the ability of UnRevoked to root the Dinc. Haven't had the need to investigate further, but when I did my Dinc, it was as easy as pie to root.

Well no, the root is good until you do something that causes the phone to become unrooted. That could be accidental - as in accepting one of Motorola's OTA Updates, or intentional - you choose to return the phone to stock for some reason. Absent one of those scenarios, once you root, it stays rooted.

so doing #228 to update the towers would cause you to lose root?

No, not at all. That just resets the phone, it doesn't un-root it. Your best bet, if you're worried about losing root is to simply refuse all OTA Updates that Verizon sends out. Get your new material from the custom roms the the developers put out and stay completely away from anything Motorola or Verizon sends OTA. Those things are *guaranteed* to unroot you.

Rooting the Incredible is very easy. You just install a driver, download the program and run from your computer, and that's it. Full step-by-step instructions are in my signature.

    Between the two.....

    X
    - bigger screen
    - better battery
    - motoblur
    - more onboard memery (I'm not 100% on this one tho)

    Dinc
    - open bootloader (easy to root, hack, etc)
    - large rom choice because of the bootloader
    - HTC sense
    - better camera (8mp vs the X's 5mp)

From my Liberated Droid 2 (Liberty v 1.5)
