What steps would I take to root the droid 1?
A simple search turned this up http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
+1 for search.
I personally had good success with Soup or Root, and other apps in the market that are "one touch root". Google would have the answers for both.
+1 for Motocache's root guide! Even if you don't use that method, I HIGHLY recommend reading it...a few times!
I suggest Z4root. Worked like a charm on my Droid 1.
But don't worry, they will always use z4root. Less reading....
+1 for Motocache guide. Its in my signature.
Sent from my rooted A855.
I just received a new droid 1 w/ 2.2.1 (FRG83D). Will any of these options work for me?
Link in my sig WILL work, provided your bootloader is 2c 7c or 2c 6c. If there's a 2c 8c, we might not be able to help with that. Try z4root and report back if it works.

If that doesn't work, sign up over at XDA.

Thanks furbearingmammal. I will let you know what happens. Obviously I need to power button + dpadup to see my bootloader?
update: my bootloader is 2c 7c
Yeah, that hasn't changed with the new OS revisions.
FYI. Just rooted the Droid 1 2.2.1 (FRG83D) using the instructions from Motocache1.
thanks to furbearingmammal for the help.
