Hi... I'm new to droid and I'm considering rooting it. It seems to be a simple process but I'm worried about voiding the warranty. I spent $200 on this phone and can't afford to replace/repair it if my warranty gets voided. So my question is does rooting automatically void your warranty or does it only void it if the phone gets messed up due to your rooting it?

Rooting is considered cause for voiding your warranty but if you know what you're doing than VZW will never know... It's easy enough to restore the phone to stock before returning/exchanging it should you need to...

With that said if you can't afford to replace the phone you may do better to consider something else... The phone is not bullet proof by far and odds are likely that should anything 'happen' it will likely be an insurance claim and not a warranty claim (so there would be a $89 deductible).

Oh, and yes... this has been asked and answered NUMEROUS times, search feature ...
