Hello, I am considering rooting using a method that I found in signatures on this site that is able to root any Android OS. I just had some quick questions. Once I do this will I have to install a custom ROM or will I still be able to use my phone just rooted? As far as ROMS are concerned is there one out there that doesnt require that I have to install other things besides the ROM to make it work? and do any ROMS overclock the droids cpu for you or will I have to mess around with kernals for that? Lastly, is there a way to unroot the droid? Just wondering so if something happens I can take it back to Verizon unrooted. Thank you in advance!

That is the best guide that you are referring to, and after you root you don't necesarrily have to load a Custom ROM, there are stock Android with Root Roms to be found, either way you would have to flash something, stock, or custom, after the process of rooting flashing a ROM will be easy stuff

No ROM requires you to install other stuff to get it working properly (well maybe sapphire) but no others, themes are optional and kernels come preinstalled, as far as unrooting the Droid, it is just as easy as rooting the Droid almost the exact same process, just less steps

Read up, ask questions and when you are ready let us know what we can do to help
