I'm the newest of new.. I rooted to get wifi. Got that working for everything but wii... any thoughts on that??
Also, what would you all recommend I do next. Id like an overclocking app, but the one I found requires *stock rom* what and where is that??

    Thanks in advance! :)

welcome to DF. congrats on a successful root.

1] wifi tether: if you are using the wireless-tether app for root users from the market i suggest installing a newer version from the link below.
Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code
if you have any issues just go through the list until you find one that is stable on your device.

2] wifi and wii - the droid actually does not support wifi tethering. the wifi tehter app makes use of the droids 3g by allowing it to become an AP (access point) to connect to thus is not the same as an actual wifi modem. so as far as the wii.....i think that this may be the issue. unless you want to use the droid as a wii remote?

3] what next - install rom manger from market (free or donate). flash clockwordmod recovery. make a backup of your current setup. if you'd like you could flash a different rom (OS) or install a kernel thats allow overclocking. just search the forums. we have just about everything answered that has a question.

see my sig for the rom link and other helpfuls. welcome and goodluck.

Welcome to Droid Forums!! Check out SetCPU for overclocking! Also, I'd recommend Cache Mate to keep your phone blazing fast!

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I know that it doesn't improve the performance like clearing the dalvik-cache does though.

    Except on booting. :)

    @OP:

    :welcome: to the forum!

    Standard rules apply:

Play nice. No flames. Keep it clean. Keep it family friendly. Don’t double-post. Don't feed the Mods, SMods, or Admins. They'll follow you home if you do, so really, it's for your own protection.

So, glad to have you on board! Have fun! :)

For the Droid 1 you'll want SetCPU, available in the Market, and you'll probably want to flash an overclocking kernel or two or twelve to see how low you can go voltage-wise and how fast you can go speed-wise. DO NOT FLASH AN ECLAIR KERNEL ON A FROYO INSTALL. And remember, backup, backup, backup! :)

I downloaded "barnacle" from the market.. so far have been happy with it. Search wireless tether in the market and you should find a few to choose from.

    Thanks everyone!!
So far I've downloaded Titanium bkup, cachemate, overclocking wizard, barnacle.. anything you'd recommend over the other?

Could someone also explain "kernel". I've been to numerous forums and can't get a grasp on it.

I chose this forum because you are all knowledgable and kind :D to newbies.

Thanks again.. you're all rockstars in my book!!! It took me an entire Sunday to feel good enough about my knowledge and fingers to do it.

The kernel is the core of the OS. In this case it also tells the CPU how fast to go and what steps along the way to run at.

By flashing a new kernel you're putting new speed step on it. For example, I'm running a low-voltage 125-1200MHz kernel from P3Droid. Your phone might not go that fast or be able to run on a less-than-stock voltage.

Also, the link in my signature for the root-only WiFi tethering app is far newer than anything you'll find on the market, with increased compatibility, stability, and features. :)

And for overclocking you really should run SetCPU on the Droid 1 and not the overclocking app for the Milestone.
