I was wondering if there is any way possible that the Droid has any kind of radio to transmit audio out wirelessly. This way when i hop in the car I can transmit to the radio or hop in a friends car i can do the same without having to carry wires or being able to be compatible with every radio. also if i am at the beach to send out one signal to several different radios at once. I dont even know if this is possible, and if not is there a Fm transmitter that will hook up to the usb and use the phone to power the device. This may not be reality but maybe just my dream.

Well, some devs are pretty close to getting FM receiving on the Droid. I'm pretty sure a couple of them got it to work, they just need to iron some things out and get a GUI to the public.

As for transmission, it's possible, but it's a whole other story. I'm sure we will get it eventually.

You probably won't be able to use the USB for this, but you could search around for a FM Transmitter that will allow you to connect to it either via an audio input jack or bluetooth.

The Jabra BT speakers do this. My sp700 has a BT connection to my Droid and can output via fm to my car radio.

    Does an FM Transmitter Exist?

Do we know for sure that the Droid has transmission circuitry? If not, no amount of hacking will get it.

    Just sayin'.

Yes, as Baba stated, the hardware is there. Motorola shut down the abilities to tx/rx in the firmware. They have gotten around this, they just need a GUI.

I bought a monster 3.5mm fm transmitter for fifteen including shipping off ebay it works like a charm in my town, my only issue is that has preset channels only but out doesn't affect me much.

Just go pick up a 3.5mm Audio FM transmitter from your local radio shack or Fry's electronics. I have one that cost $20 and works great. Transmits to any FM frequency you set it to. (plus you can use this with any audio device that has a 3.5mm audio jack, ie: laptops, mp3 player, etc... )

But where's the fun in that. My development for fun days are long past, but I cant count the number of times I made my own whatever because it was more fun than just buying it.

My question is if the hardware has the capability, why did Moto disable it? Seems like it would be yet another selling point for the Droid...
