Start with titanium backup to freeze all the verizon bloat And back up all your apps so they can easily be reinstalled very quickly.. It's a paid app, but it's worth every penny!! One of my favorite apps

ROM Toolbox (can also backup/freeze, over clock etc.)
Terminal Emulator if you're familiar with Linux commands.
