    I began following the instructions contained here

    But, three of the files were not in the rageagainst the cage zip. I successfully dl the file to my pc, and transfered them to the phone via Dropbox.

    The help I now need is... how the heck do I get the files to the proper folder in my phone?

    I do have Astro, and thanks for the help.

    x³-1=0 --> (x-1)·(x²+x+1)=0 --> w ,, (w²+w+1)=0
    w³=1 and w^4= w

    UPDATE, but still need help

    Ok, so I got all of the correct files into the correct folder. Now, when I type in the "cp /sdcard/download/rage*.bin /tmp/" command, I get the following error: cp/: not found

    I need to know where to go from here, please.

    I ran a search for the message I am getting, but I get threads from all over the place and the few I looked at didn't seem to have anything to do with my problem.

    Thanks

    Second update

    I have discovered that there are spaces needed or deleted in some of the command lines. Quite annoying.

    I have advanced to task 4 on the "Step 2 option A:
    Root your phone without your computer"

    No matter what spacing of ./rage*.bin I use, I either get "not found" or "permission denied"

    What the heck is going on?

    Someone PLEASE help.

    Quick question. Is the goal here is to have your phone rooted? Because there is a much easier way than this method. If you google for z4root and download it to your phone, you can be rooted in like a couple of minutes.

    If you are doing this method to learn and have fun on your phone, that's cool too and I can help you with that.

    Yes, the goal is to root my phone. I had read of a lot of issues with easy-rooting methods, so I thought I would try the method I am attempting.

    If there is a simple way to do it I'm all for it, but why isn't it a sticky around here? (at least not that I have seen)

    Darn. I was kind of hoping you were doing this for the tech aspect! :)

    Don't know why there isn't a sticky for z4root. But google and download z4root. Make sure, in Settings | Applications that Unknown sources has a checkmark. Use file manager to find z4root.apk on your SD card and run it. Pick permanent root and you should be set.

    I am reading a bit about z4root, and I see that getting SBF before attempting is recommended as well. I am continuing to read on this..

    Cannot figure out how to flash SPRecovery to my phone using RSD Lite. My phone does not show up in RSD and I have changed the ID options...

    This is retarded. I am ready to just stay with a stock X.

    Not that anyone besides freezyfreaky seems to care.

    Nice responses to someones plea for help...

    You don't need to SBF. You only need that if you want to go back to Stock or in case you royally mess up your phone.

    Google and download z4root. Put that on your SD card. Open up Settings | Applications and make sure that Unknown Sources has a checkmark. Use File Manager to find the z4root.apk and run it. Click on Permanent root.
