Does anyone know if there is anything in the works about a future root of the Charm? LOL.

It is sort of a serious question, I guess; a friend was asking me if she should get one. My answer was an "absolutely not" but if it could be rooted and with a nice ROM it might have some worth.

(And I hope posting about a non-verizon phone doesn't violate any rules here... if so I'll delete this and punish myself.)

I hadn't heard of it either until my friend asked me about it. The Charm is basically a Motorola's MotoBlur-running, pocket-sized social network phone - a lot like the Kin.

It'll be interesting to see how it does, considering the fate of the Kin.

I'd love to see what a creative dev could do with a ROM for it though.

    Not surprised...

That was sort of my thought too, and originally posted sort of as a humorous what-if sort of thing, but y'know, after thinking about it, if the right things were put in a ROM for it and the right things taken out, and you just wanted a fast little phone for banging out texts, emails, and do your social network updates without the distractions of maps or media players or browsers, it could be a cool thing.

On the other hand, it was probably thinking along the same lines as that which convinced Windows to go ahead with the Kin, and no doubt the "it could be good" philosophy that made Motorola think they could do it better.

In any case, I see no real use for this phone as stock, and not much more use than being a novelty if it were rooted, so I'd have to agree with you that the devs likely have a million other things they'd do before rooting the Charm.
