My computer took a dump a while back, but since I have my droid, I just use my phone for all my internet needs. Is there a way to root my droid 1, stock 2.2 FRG22D, without a computer? I really doubt its possible, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

There was an app in the Market called "East Root" I am not sure if it is still available, but it's worth looking into

It is not the preferred method, but without access to a computer you don't have much choice, for ROM's you will also have to install a custom recovery, which can also be done without a computer

I found that easy root in the market. I have to wait for an email from the developers and see if its compatable, hope it doesn't take forever.

DO NOT USE EASY ROOT. I've seen to many issues with that. And it cannot be used for FRG22D.

There currently is no way to root a Droid without a computer running FRG22D. Go to the Droid Labs sections for instructions on how to root your Droid but please don't even attempt to use Easy Root or any other non computer method as of this time.

Both of the one click root apps (universal androot and easy root) do not work with frg22d. The most recent update patched the exploit that those apps used to root. Computer is only way to go at this point.

I know of all the issues associated with easy root, I was not aware that it is not compatible with FRG22D...usually I just steer people away from it, but with no access to a computer, there is no other way (that I am aware of) :(

There is a way if they don't have FRG22D. Now if through some miracle they still have 2.1 or manage to flash back to 2.1 then they can use drodmod upadter 12. You can get this for free at DroidMod.org | Insert a catchy tagline here. I used it to successfully remove the root from FRG01B and go back to stock. Then I upgraded OTA to FRG22D on my D1. That is the only safe non computer way to root, and like I said you can't use if out of FRG22D.
