I haven't seen a rom.tgz file in forever. Does the ease of creating simple update.zip files outweigh the functionality of the rom.tgz format?

I for one miss making choices when installing a rom, like what apps to install, what theme, etc etc.

Is there any possible way to bring the rom.tgz format back in fashion?

    Like maybe a rom.tgz kitchen?

    Anyone? Ideas? Comments?

problem is nobody uses SPR. But as soon I get RZR on all other devices, they may start using rom.tgz as it is clearly superior in every way, except that it takes lots of linux knowledge to successfully pull off..

Well, you know alot about linux and shell scripting right? Could you create a rom.tgz kitchen?

That would make it alot easier for everyone to get on the rom.tgz train heading for awesome town!

Actually, now that I think about it, could this "kitchen" be done with Automater on a Mac? Just have the workflow add the code for each option to the install scripts?

    critically endangered, maybe?

i started my root journey fall of last year so the only .tgz roms i've used have been raidzero's.

but every now and then, sick of gb's d1 flaws, i flash back to that one rz baseline that has like 19 different color options. feels more "special" than an update.zip, if you know what i mean.
