I just threw this together while in class because I know everyone is getting all excited over it for some reason lol.
It has proper root access and su will prompt you like it is supposed to.
This is in the form of an update.zip, it will also update your baseband.
Please post on other forums, website, etc.
Edit: If you are having issues wipe /data and try again.
I am too busy to try this on every single ROM available...

Note: This requires a modified recovery such as SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery; the stock recovery will fail the signature verification.

    Download Links: http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/ESE81/OEM/

Nandroid Backup Added! Must be used with clockwork recovery
Update.zip can be used with either recovery but needs to be renamed to update.zip to use SPRecovery

Dumb question time... Will I be able to update to one of Chevy's overclocks on this, or is that something that only a custom ROM will let you do? If no one else has tried it give me about 40 minutes and I'll give an update on my success or failure.

Help me understand how to take advantage of your fine work. I'm currently running BuglessBeast 2.1 ROM, kernel 0.9, ChevyNo1 10-step OC mod, and Smoked Glass mod. After reading most of the posts on the new OTA ESE81 thread, I consider I have it much better than them, so I have no interest in unrooting to apply the OTA.

I am, however, interested in the pinch-zoom, and a few other minor items the official update has that I currently don't.

Do I simply download and install this ESE81 update.zip? Do I have to back out of or uninstall anything I'm currently running? Will I need to reinstall my apps?

Or should I just wait awhile and see what shakes out in the next few weeks? I'm quite happy with my setup right now, except for no Flash, no pinch-zoom, only 5 screens, no totally hands-free capabilities, mediocre Exchange support, poor camera in low light, voice quality only fair - but all these are truly minor quibbles.

    Help me decide.

Any custom ROM I have seen out over the last few weeks includes pinch to zoom in all the google apps, maps, browser, gallery, etc. And BB v.9 is no different. Not sure what you mean?

With the state of the ROM's out now, applying this new update will not get you anything that you don't already have. Most likely, the only thing you won't have is the new baseband which you can get from alldroid.org.

I was running UD 8.X yesterday when i decided to unroot for this 2.1 update. I dl'd and installed the 2.1 this morning and have now decided to re-root....I'll give this file a try and see how it goes. Cross your fingers =)

I imagine they need to create a new 'update' for the overclocking functionality to work. Given the previous hacks were based on a different build. Just a hunch....

this update.zip fails signature verification on the stock recovery. something about not being able to read the /cache directory. this happened after I successfully reflashed via RSDLite back to ESD56.

do I need sirpsychos recovery to use this particular update.zip?

msg is E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command, but that seems to happen even when I update with the normal stock ESE81 named signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip, and that update just applied successfully, so I suspect that either my file was corrupt, or there is a signature problem in this update.zip.

How is everyone else doing with this update that Pete published?

    Thanks!

Yup! OC'd and it works so far! SetCPU says my temps are hanging at 98.6... I think it's mostly from data due to apps reloading. Might try to go to 1.2Mhz using Chevy's OC later today.

Hey guys, first time poster but I've been lurking for about three weeks.

I got my Droid last week and am loving the phone so far. I always knew I wanted to OC and to also get rid of some of the pre-installed apps on the phone that I will never use (Corporate Calendar, Amazon MP3, etc) but I didn't really want to deal with any Roms or anything like that so I decided to wait until the 2.1 update was rolled out, root, profit.

I guess I am wondering if this is the file I need? And also will I be able to OC without doing anything else but rooting and downloading SetCPU from the market place? Thanks in advance.

How do benches and performance compare to ESE53?

Just in case anyone was wondering. I just installed Chevy's low voltage 1.2Mhz 7-slot and it works fine so far. SetCPU says: short bench is 200ms (4 test average) long bench is 677ms (4 test average) I ran the stress test for 5 minutes with no errors. My temp peaked at 100.4 during the stress test. My idle is in the mid 90s. BAM!

These numbers are the same as my OC when I was running BB v0.9.
