Review the Tonido Android App and Win a Tonido Plug

That's right. It's time for another famous DroidForums.net giveaway competition. This time we are giving away a Tonido Plug. What exactly is the Tondio Plug? Well it's a tiny, low-power, low-cost personal home server and NAS device which runs the Tonido software which allows you to access your files, music and media from anywhere. The cost? $99. However, if you happen to win this competition you'll receive it for free... shipping included.

The Tonido Plug will work with the Tonido Android App but it's certainly not required. You can run the Tonido Desktop software directly on your computer and that also works with the Tonido App and provides a free solution. However, the Plug does offer some benefits as well because you can use it as a dedicated device. No need to leave your computer up 24x7 - the Plug is a low power solution and allows you to plug in a USB drive for storage.

So, how do you go about winning this Tonido Plug? All you have to do is write-up a review on the Tonido Android App. Since there is no cost for the app and no cost for the desktop version you have no out of pocket expense to do the review. Reviews will be submitted to me in PDF format and I'll chop em up and place them on the forum (giving you credit of course). The best review (most thorough) will receive the Tonido Plug. Email the review to tonidoreview @ droidforums.net.

The review doesn't have to be positive, just honest. Review as you see fit and tell us everything about the product. I'll also take a moment to let everyone know that we will be posting this up on Twitter and ask that you follow us (twitter.com/droidforums) and please Rewteet the contest. Thanks!

How have I never heard about this before!?!? I use Dropbox for small stuff and I run my own FTP server for everything else. Problem is, FTP isn't that secure and my dropbox is limited. Now, the review.

------------------
When I first saw that Tonido was an all in one personal cloud server that was both affordable and easy, I was skeptical. But being the techie I am, I decided to give it a try. Signing up was easy, the client is small and needs to real set up and the web interface is intuitive.

The first thing I saw when I logged into the web interface was the ability to have guest accounts. THANK YOU TONIDO for doing this! Next was the ability to set up shared files that you can have assigned to specific URLs and anyone can have access to files in those shares. My wife will love you for this. She hates having to log into my FTP via IE or one of the other ways I find to share my files.

Having access to every file and drive on my computer is insane too. Far too often I have the intention to put a file in folder for my FTP and forget. I get to work or wherever I'm going and realize its not there. Frantically I call my wife or anyone else near my house that I can get a hold of to see if they will put that file on my FTP, often failing to get a hold of someone. With Tonido, you have access to every file/folder on your computer.

To me, there are only a couple of cons to TonidoPlug. First is getting it set up as a local drive can be cumbersome to some that don't have much technical expertise. Next is that fact that it only uses USB devices for storage. I would have liked to see an option where you can have it use both USB storage devices and the ability to talk to a home PC as well. So on the website I have the option of saving to the USB device OR a computer that is powered on and set up to talk to the TonidoPlug. I also had issues opening up Word and Excel files on my phone even though I have QuickOffice installed. Other cloud based services I use don't have any issues.
------------------

Another question of mine is can I have multiple computers set up to one Tonido account? If I buy a TonidoPlug, will I need a seperate account from the one my computer is set up to? Will it show both the TonidoPlug and my computer? I think the web interface is amazing and am seriously considering buying a TonidoPlug. being able to send photos to the device from anywhere if I'm on vacation or out of town for whatever reason, as well as any other file, accessing my files all from my phone or browser would be great.

Great review John -- but we need it in PDF format at the email address if you can. Also keep in mind, a review is even better if it has pictures illustrating what your talking about.

Remember, only the best review will get the Plug!

Will do. I was at work and honestly rushed. My grammar was horrible, glad I have a chance to change it =P

This isn't a review, just a little tidbit. My first experience with this app thus far has been dismal. It seems a lot of users experience the same issue since the Tonido forum is flooded with posts about it. I installed the desktop client and when I try to log in via the mobile app I get an error saying "Profile Already Logged In". It's a known issue on Tonido's end that they still haven't fixed. Not a good start for this promising app.

I've been using Tonido (desktop) for awhile now and I LOVE the jukebox function of it, as I have a ton of music that I like to take with me on the go and play at work. Playlist functions, for example, are really nice when I want to listen to certain things. I was a little let down on the Android app for two reasons:

1. Doesn't appear to be a way to play / access playlists (as there is not an actual 'jukebox' portion of the app)
2. There is no way to adjust the quality of music streaming. It's obvious that it is not streaming at the full bitrate of the song, but 3G speeds CAN handle it. (I tested this out using Orb and I can full quality on my MP3 tracks.)

I hope that they fix those two things in future releases.

I'd love to review it, but every method I try yields no results. It looks as though Tonido is not available in the market. Even through Appbrain I get the same error.
