    Hi!

For anyone who may have, like me, made the rash decision to unroot their phone for the ota update, only to immediately regret it, and wants to go back, I followed the method here to flash the phone with the sbf and it went through without a hitch:

    Droid 2.0.1 sbf file released!

After reverting back I was able to again root the phone and get the custom roms installed without any issues at all.

The 2.1 ota update removes root access which is unfortunately why this was necessary for me. So yes, for me at least, I updated to 2.1 ota which got rid of my root access and nandroid as well, so I had to go back to 2.0.1 to get back to how things were.

Pete's posted a rooted version of ESE81, and t3hsteve has posted an uppgrade.zip file that only updates the baseband radio file from. .01P to .03P without touching root, data, apps, etc.

    If you want to root?

Let me see if I got this straight. I was thinking of trying to root my droid, but I was going to wait for the 2.1 ota update to see what it was like. If I get the update then I can't root my phone without going through this process? If I root before I get the update ajnd put on the 2.1 update file rom to force the update will that remove root access also? Or its it just a matter of time before the have the necasry software to root the ota 2.1?

I've not used RSD because I was already rooted and did not install the new update from VZW and I use a Mac which, for now, we've not been able to find a way to run RSD on.

I read the thread in the OP Droid 2.0.1 sbf file released! Not use if this is the problem but look at number 41.

I'm going to search for some additional info.

I hate being a newbee. So let me get this straight I can root my stock phone that already has 2.1 on it. all of the instructions I have read refer to only rooting 2.0 phones. So, before you bash me, yes I know there as search function on this site, but as of now I'm at the stage where I know even know the questions to ask because all of you are speaking some different language. Thanks in advance and waiting for the shots to be fired.

Well we were all a newbee at some point so---
As of this writing, the is not a process to allows you to root a phone that has VZW's 2.1. Hopefully, that will change. Therefore, if you want to root you need to replace the 2.1 firmware with the 2.0.1 firmware. Once you have 2.0.1 you can root your phone and install a 2.1 rom.

    Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks mike i think i'll stick with 2.1 for now. The only feature I was interested in was wireless feathering. As help forums go this site is the best I've come across. My problem now is Im at the stage where I don't know what I don't know.

I understand your situation. I think you should begin searching reading the threads. There is a lot of info on Youtube, also. When you have a question post it or send me a PM.

I got it to work but I'm using barnical tether and it sucks. On android wifi tether where do I get the kernel to make it work? So I can use that.

Here is a link (ChevyNo1 - Get Yer Kernels Here (ERE25 Only)) to Chevy's OC kernels which contain the wifi tethering. Please note that his kernels are ERE25 so if your running a newer rom you may want to consider trying a different kernel.
