Restore gb backup after flashing ics

When I flash an ics rom I need to flash the kernel for it as well, and saw somewhere that I need to flash the gb kernel when I restore a gb backup but I can't find where I saw this. Is this true, and if so, do I flash the kernel before or after I restore the backup?

Yes it is true. I typically flash the kernel after I install a new ROM/restore backup.
