Got root and custom recovery so the OTA update failed. Still want the update though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Is this new update the one that Verizon is trying to push now?
I noticed Verizon is requesting me to install a "system update".
My phone is rooted. Will this update work.

VZW should be pushing it now apparently--droid-life is reporting it. They had a testing release get pushed out about a week ago.

It may not install if you are not stock--the custom recoveries usually block it...I did install the testing release (rolled back to stock first) and it wiped recovery, and obviously wasn't rooted. It is possible to root it though.

Personally if you want stock but rooted I would wait for P3Droid or someone to get a stock rooted image out, with the recovery checking disabled as well.

I think that was done from the leaked FRG83 and not the FRG83(D) release.
I do not know what the differences are (if any). Could be a proprietary motorola file or an updated app.

This IS the update to FRG22D (fFroyo 2.2)?
I have had good luck using Wireless Tether with my rooted FRG22D phone and not being billed (I do not use a huge amount, but have been to >7gb more than once, as shown on my Verizon bill).
I do not wnat to lose this ability with the next "update".

Verizon will not officially support the D1's chipset as being WiFi tethering-capable, so don't sweat it.

This is the update to FRG83D, where D stands for Droid. FRG83 prior to this was Nexus 1.

    FRG83D. :)

Unless you're on the P3 FRG22D where he replaced the kernel with a dev kernel. Verizon got wise to that trick and will try to force you to update to a stock FRG22D install to break your root.
