I have searched and searched. I cannot find a thread with instructions. I have a custom Mms.apk that I want to replace the stock one with and I have Root Explorer. What are the steps?

You need to make the folder you are copying into Read Writable and then Read Only again once you are done. Use the top Mount R/W button to do so.
Longpress on the file you want to copy, navigate to the folder you want to place it in, then push the paste button that showed up at the bottom of the screen when you first copied the file.

I'd rename the original file first...just in case:) Longpress, rename. add a .bak or something to the end of it.

OK, what folder do I want to copy it into? Why rename, to what?

I've attached a PDF that I used to replace the Verizon Wireless logo with an apk file.

Search the phone for where it is stored. Root Explorer will search, copy, edit, move, change file permissions and more.

Did you create the custom apk or did you get it from somewhere?

There should be directions on how to put it in place where you got it from. If you customized it...well, then you should know where the original is:)

I got it from woodyman when I was on Bugless beast, but have switched ROMs. I did the swap using terminal emulator but cannot find the thread that I used. Now I have Root Explorer, but am new to its functionality.

I appreciate all of the support I get on this awesome forum.

If you are on ultimate 9.8 is might not work properly....since it is built on the newest code from google. If root explorer is confusing just do it through the terminal on the phone. Put the Mms.apk you want to put on the phone on the root of your sdcard. Then put this in terminal
    su
    sysrw
    cd /sdcard
    cp -R Mms.apk /system/app
    sysro
    sync
    reboot

I got it! Using Root explorer rename method. The expanded Mms.apk works great with UD. You can change the LED color, and turn it black. You can change the font size and lots more. Thanks WoodyMan!!!
