Good thing Android has nothing to do with Motorola and HTC is making some awesome phones running Android these days.

Was just at the Verizon store today in DC, said that they don't do the fifty dollar replacements anymore and that it was a company wide policy change since no one was buying the insurance..

What are these $50 replacements of which you speak?

I just followed up with the parts source which is commissioning the DROID front glass knockoff. He says the project is a go but the ETA is still up in the air. Trust me, the DROIDForums community will be the first to know once I can get the parts.

    larryzorz,

Well that's a first... I got lucky. Trust me, i doubt it will happen again.

I did specifically ask to speak to a manager. The manager made the decision after looking at my account. (I think the fact that I have never made a late payment in 9 years may have something to do with it, but what do I know)

I didn't even have to get grumpy. :-0

Having insurance and needing replacement parts are two separate issues. A manufacturer should stock spare parts. My old phone was a Blackberry, I cracked the screen. I didn't have insurance, but took it to my local Sprint store and they replaced it with a new screen it for $40. I didn't complain that Sprint sucked or Blackberry sucked, I paid my $40 and got a new screen. Seems Motorola and Verizon should do the same.

    Motorola Service Timeframe

Does anybody know how long the Motorola service takes to replace the screen? I saw someone here said a month, but that sounds like hyperbole. If it's the only option...I've gone weeks with this cracked screen and it's getting old waiting for screens to become available to the market.

As a suggestion, have you tried taking your phone to a verizon store? Ask to speak to the manager and explain you have tried for a month to get the phone repaired.

I did, and they overnighted me a replacement phone. I did NOT have insurance. But explain your frustration and the attempts you made to get it repaired.

This is a valid problem... Verizon is selling phones for which there are NO replacement parts. Imagine if Honda or Toyota were to do the same?

You should not be forced to by a replacement phone for a broken $10 piece of (gorilla) glass.

While Verizon is not responsible, they are endorsing a product which can not be repaired. Troll that I am, thinks it is a tad reprehensible.

Good Luck, and please keep us informed...

On a side note, I rooted, rom'ed, kerneled and overclocked my Droid... for fun... it was worth it. :) Been running at low voltage 900mhz/400mhz... with excellent battery life.

I've called around within the official Motorola repair network and the shops that would talk to me told me that the parts are out of stock internally to Motorola. So I think you're kind of at the mercy of Motorola's internal supply.

Believe me, I'm completely sick of this situation and I DON'T EVEN OWN ONE YET.

I am going to email my parts supply contact and see if I can get an update on an ETA for knockoff screens.

    repair

the turn around, if they get it right the first time, is a week. they charge $75 which is expensive if the glass only costs $10 which is the rumor, but its better than a cracked droid in your pocket.

    Good luck,

Does this mean you have access to the glass and know how to replace it?

Will you be selling the glass for owners to do their own repairs?

I just broke mine 2 days ago and would love to get it fixed ASAP.

    thanks
    Joel

You know we would prefer to do the glass repair ourselves, but I think I could make an exception as far as selling glass to people on here. However in order to not appear to be too blatant about promoting this on here, let's take it to PM or maybe we can do some kind of group buy promotion.
