Remote Video/Camera/Picture through Gmail ?

I've seen many programs that start audio/video recording or take pictures via remote SMS command message, but is there one that can go through gmail (or any other email for that matter)? I don't have unlimited SMS because I don't text often, so gmail commands (through the data connection) would be much more economical.

If there isn't one, what is the best SMS one people would recommend?
